POST HOME PROJECT

For nearly a century - since April 7th, 1931- the Lee-Pearson Post 1786 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars has stood as a pillar of strength and service for the Manhattan area. Through generations of conflict and peace, we have been a constant source of support for those who wore the uniform.

Today, our mission is more vital than ever. We are 350 members strong, and our ranks are surging. Just this past year, we welcomed over 50 new members into our Post. Yet, there are still thousands of eligible veterans and active-duty service members in our area who need a community, who need an advocate, and who need a home. But to reach them, and to serve them properly, we must build that home.

As we look forward to our 100-year anniversary in the summer of 2031, we have launched an ambitious 5-year Capital and Construction plan. Our vision is clear: we are building a multi-use facility that will fundamentally transform our outreach.

This will not just be a building; it will be a lifeline. It will house vital community outreach programs, including Veteran Benefit Claims Clinics where we can directly change veterans' lives. We will finally be able to host large events like State and District VFW meetings and serve as a place where veterans can gather as friends and comrades. It will feature an event hall for the community to celebrate weddings, hold seminars, or various other events. It will feature an auxiliary meeting room, a full kitchen, and an outdoor patio complete with a fire pit for the dignified retirement of worn American flags. We will use the flag retirement ceremony as a patriotic teaching moment for school or civic groups and other members of the community that would like to attend.

In designing this space, we made a deliberate, mission-driven choice: this facility will not have a dedicated bar or canteen. We made this decision to ensure our Post is fundamentally welcoming and unconditionally supportive of all veterans, particularly those who are in recovery. While those renting our hall can secure the proper licensing to serve alcohol at their private events, our daily operations will remain focused on community, veteran support, and keeping operational costs low so every dollar can go back to the mission.

To make this centennial vision a reality, we have set a fundraising goal of $1,000,000 to purchase land and construct this facility. And that is why we need you.

Whether it is a cash grant, the donation of construction materials, pro-bono services, or a personal financial contribution, your support will directly build the foundation of our next 100 years. As a 501(c)(19) veterans' organization, your contributions are entirely tax-deductible.

More importantly, your generosity will never be forgotten. Donors meeting the contribution levels to this campaign will have their name prominently and permanently displayed inside the new building—a lasting testament to the community that stood behind its veterans. For our largest supporters, we have exclusive naming and recognition opportunities available.

We have stood for this community since 1931. Tonight, we are asking you to stand with us, to help us build a home for the next generation of heroes.
